St. Andrew’s Light Theater – Cast Audition Call for Three Fables Production

Redondo Beach, California, February 24, 2010 – St. Andrew’s Light Theater, beginning its second year in the South Bay, today announced a cast audition call for a theater production of Three Fables, a bright new stage adaptation of Aesop’s delightful fables by Robert R. Lehan. Cast auditions will be held in the church Family Life Center room on Sunday, February 28, 2010 between 11:45 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. as well as Thursday, March 4, 2010 between 4:00 p.m and 6:30 p.m. This production will be co-directed by Linda Ayers and Carrie Bach who have demonstrated wonderful creativity and extensive leadership in the performing arts. The production performance of Three Fables will take place on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Andrew’s Fellowship Hall.

In The Lion and the Mouse, not only does Lion discover that Mouse enjoys Shakespeare as much as he does, but also that you can always be helpful, no matter what your size. The wonderful Dog In the Manger humorously demonstrates that selfishness and false praise do not lead you down the road to success. In the final tale, The Ant and the Grasshoppers, Aesop emphasizes the importance of thinking ahead.

A variety of roles are available for children, teens, and adults. No prior experience is necessary. St. Andrew’s Light Theater invites any person five-years old and up to audition for a role. A cast member fee is $25 per person covers all rehearsals and production and parents are expected to volunteer to assist in the rehearsals and production. Scholarships are available. The St. Andrew’s church facility includes a theater stage where the performance will be held. Cast rehearsals are scheduled for Saturday mornings between 9:00 a.m. and noon and start March 6th.

“We’re very excited as we step into our 2010 production schedule. Family theater brings our community together to enjoy talents that often go unnurtured. These enacted stories have the power to teach all ages while challenging each cast member,” said Martin Smith, Associate Pastor for Families and Young Adults. “We want the community to know that God creates these story-tellers for his glory and our benefit,” he added.

 Two days after Monday’s earthquake in Haiti, the magnitude of damage and suffering has become clear. When we understand the suffering of Haiti’s people, a country already beset by poverty, our own hearts grieve on their behalf. The Holy Spirit moves us in compassion to care and we dare not quench that leading. When we act in faith to the Holy Spirit’s leading, and move to help those suffering through prayer and aid, everyone is blessed. Our own souls are comforted as we act as Jesus himself would act in the face of suffering.

 Please be in prayer for Haiti and the rescue and relief operation under way. If you are able, please also consider supporting the following ministries serving in Christ’s name:

• Mother’s Day Out (MDO):  Thursdays, 9am – 12noon; Resumes January 21, 2010. Childcare for infant to Pre-K by reservation only. 
• Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS):  Meets every other Wednesday from 9am to 11:30am.  Moms gather for devotion, a warm breakfast, discussion time and craft time.  The kids enjoy a fun-filled morning of Bible activity, song and play.
• Sundays @ 10am – Sunday school (infant-PreK) and Bible Adventures for Kids (1st-5th grade).
