Celebration for Rev. Bill & Margaret Steel

30 07 2010
Come and Honor Pastor Bill and Margaret Steel
When:  Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010
Time:  After Sunday worship at about 11am
Place:  Fellowship Hall

Please plan to join us for worship on Sunday, September 12th and honor Pastor Bill and Margaret Steel.  There will be a reception for them in Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.  Pastor Bill has meant so much to St. Andrew’s over the past years as he’s cared so tenderly for the widows and elderly in our church family.  And, his wife, Margaret has been tireless in showing her care in serving faithfully in the numerous activities and programs at the church including being the head of Deacons.  Both should be congratulated on their faithful service in continuing to grow the kingdom of God here at St. Andrew’s.  We wish them all of God’s blessings in their next chapter as they settle in their new home in Turlock, California.  May God Bless you Bill and Margaret!

Full of twists and turns, ruin and redemption, revelation and mystery this Bible study keeps participants captivated by the God who stars in it! Explore concepts such as blessing, covenant, and promise, and the bearing each has on a New Testament believer’s life today. Group members will also study the Hebrew names of God introduced on the early pages of Scripture.

Throughout 11 weeks of exciting, engaging intrigue, participants will plunge into the heart of Genesis, to God’s remarkable pursuit of relationship and to the unfolding of His earthly plan: that through one nation—and ultimately, one man—all people on earth will be blessed. Many of the most profound and enduring concepts in the whole counsel of God’s Word are initiated in this marvelous book of beginnings.  The Patriarchs

Our Wholeness service will be held on the third Wednesday of each month from 5-6pm in the Sanctuary Narthex with the first service to be held on September 19th. The first half of the service will include a time of worship, scriptural guidance, and the Lord’s Supper followed by an opportunity for interactive prayer for the second half of the service time. All are invited to share prayer needs with a prayer servant who will then lift these concerns on their behalf. Please let others that would benefit know about this service.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

6 08 2010
Prayer Shawl Ministry

Do you love creating things of beauty? Do you know how to knit, crochet, quilt or would like to learn? If you do, we have an opportunity to reach out to those in our congregation and community through a tangible, comforting and caring ministry. Contact Yvette Dolan if you are interested or just have questions. 310.540-5252 x. 241 or ydolan@sntandrews.org

The shawl maker begins with prayers and blessings for the recipient and the prayers are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. Upon completion, a final blessing is offered before the shawl is sent on its way. Some recipients have continued the kindness by making a shawl and passing it onto someone in need. Thus, the blessing ripples from person-to-person, with both the giver and receiver feeling the embrace of a sheltering God! Shawls can be used for: undergoing medical procedures; during an illness and recovery; as a comfort after a loss or in times of stress; during bereavement; prayer or meditation; commitment or marriage ceremonies; birthing, nursing a baby; bridal shower or wedding gift; ministering to others; graduation, birthday, anniversary, ordination, holiday gifts; or just socializing…there are endless possibilities!

The attached document gives a little more information about prayer shawls if you wish to print it … Form of Prayer: Prayer Shawls.

AMOR Ministries

1 06 2010

A great opportunity to serve
High school, college students and other adults have the opportunity to travel south to Mexico to partner with AMOR Ministries in helping to construct a home for needy families.  Each year we hear of some amazing stories where hearts are changed while the love of God through serving others is seen in action.

This ministry is a great way to get involved in helping families in need, taking the focus off our wants and really helping those in need of basic shelter.  During the week, the crew will lay a foundation, construct the walls, plaster and roof the family’s new home.  Each day, you’ll get great meals and have wonderful fellowship as you share in this labor and spread God’s love through your service.

Check out the AMOR Ministries website – 30 years building homes for the needy in Mexico: http://www.amor.org

 AMOR Dates:  July 18-23, 2010
 Where:  Mexico

The AMOR trip to build houses in Mexico is open to adults and students 8th grade and up.
