No Participation-Cost St. Andrew’s Light Theater – Cast Call for Honk! Production

Redondo Beach, California, May 28, 2009 – St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, a congregation of over 600 worshippers, today announced cast call and audition for a no participation-cost theater production of the award-winning musical, Honk! created by Anthony Drewe and George Stiles.  Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story of The Ugly Duckling, Honk! is a musical adaptation that highlights the value of each person, persistence, the danger of loneliness and naiveté, the value of care and love for others, and the joy of a transformed life. The Honk! production will be directed by John and Susan Brown who have given extensive leadership in the South Bay performing arts education as founders of Fantasia Family Music.

A variety of Honk! roles for acting, singing, and dancing will be available for children, teens, and adults. No prior experience is necessary. St. Andrew’s Light Theater invites any person five-years old and up to audition for a role. Two casts are planned with each having up to fifty members. Cast members are not required to pay fees but parents are expected to volunteer to assist in the rehearsals and production. The St. Andrew’s church facility includes a theater where auditions for the play will take place June 7 and June 9 at 5:00 p.m. both days. Rehearsals begin Thursday, June 18 and final performances are planned for August 7, 8, and 14, 15.

”The South Bay community has a need for a family-friendly theater where both children and adults can enjoy time together through the performing arts of acting, singing, and dancing without the burden of financial cost,” said Martin Smith, Associate Pastor for Families and Young Adults. “We want the community to know that God is the giver of these gifts and their enjoyment,” he added.

Community members interested in auditioning or those with questions should contact Yvette Dolan, St. Andrew’s Light Theater Administrative Director, at (310) 540-5252 x241.
